WASHINGTON SUMMIT DECLARATION

WASHINGTON, D.C., USA – on Wednesday, 10 July 2024, delegates and Heads of State and Government of the North Atlantic Alliance from over 50 countries arrived to Washington, D.C. for a pivotal Summit in order to address NATO’s deterrence and defence posture and to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Alliance. 

The Washington Summit culminated in a powerful declaration. This document outlined the collective commitments and strategies agreed upon by the participating nations. The key topic was strengthening defence Alliances. Discussions centred on collective defence strategies and counter-terrorism efforts. It was underlined that NATO continue to enhance its’ deterrence and defence against all threats and challenges in all domains and in multiple strategic directions across the Euro-Atlantic area. A new generation of NATO defence plans were confirmed that will make the Alliance stronger and more able to deter and if, necessary defend against any potential adversary including at short or no notice.

Follow-up sessions were scheduled to monitor progress and ensure accountability in the implementation of the declaration’s goals. One of the goal is establishing the NATO Integrated Cyber Defence Centre to enhance network protection, situational awareness and the implementation of cyberspace as an operational domain throughout peacetime, crisis and conflict as well as developing a policy to augment the security of NATO’s networks. 

The Washington Summit underscored the importance of unity in addressing global challenges and paved the way for a more cooperative and sustainable future based on a 360-degree approach.
