INTERVIEW WITH THE OUTGOING NATO CIS GROUP COMMANDER AND DEPUTY CHIEF OF STAFF CYBERSPACE DIRECTORATE AT SHAPE

MONS, Belgium – Major General, Frank SCHLÖSSER, gave an interview to the NCISG Public Affairs Office before handing over his command on 19th April 2024.

Interviewer: Good afternoon, General. Thank you for taking the time to speak with me today. Since March 2021, you have been the NCISG Commander and Deputy Chief of Staff (DCOS) Cyberspace Directorate at SHAPE, Mons in Belgium. Reflecting on your tenure, what would you say were the most significant challenges you have witnessed in this dual role?

General:
Thank you very much for this extremely interesting question. I think the challenges in cyberspace were related to Ukraine conflict, NATO’s actions and reactions to this new challenge and its enormous impact on cyberspace. Therefore, without going into details, we are structuring our cyber defence capabilities and our CIS capabilities in such a way that they are able to respond to such threats. I think it has been the biggest challenge these last three years
