NCISG RECOGNITION AWARD CEREMONY AND COMMANDER’S CHRISTMAS GREETINGS

MONS, Belgium – on 14 December 2023, Major General Frank Schlösser, Commander NATO CIS Group (NCISG) presented, on behalf of the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), the Meritorious Service Medal and the SACEUR Recognition Award to NCISG staff members. Major General Schlösser also presented the NCISG Individual, the Team and the Unit Recognition Awards to NCISG staff members. Finally, the Commander sent his warmest greetings and best wishes to NCISG staff members celebrating Christmas in all peacetime locations. 

First, Major General Schlösser presented the Meritorious Service Medal to one military and one civilian staff members working in NCISG. Congratulations went to Major Stephan Gibbons, GBR A, former Deputy Commander of 1st NATO Signal Battalion (1NSB) and Mr. Terence Brown, NATO International Civilian from NCISG J3.

Major Gibbons has been decorated for his excelling in his service as Deputy Commander and GBR Senior National Representative at 1NSB, while managing a broad and diverse portfolio, and mentoring and developing a diverse workforce. He regularly deputized for the Battalion Commander leading from the front and providing assurance and total professionalism to the NCISG HQ and dislocated 1NSB staff.

Mr. Brown distinguished himself as the most effective NATO Communication and Information Systems Operational and Crisis Response Planning planner supporting the Allied Command Operations (ACO), while establishing ACO’s CIS core planning processes. He is also a course developer and instructor for the NCI Academy NATO CIS Operational Planning Course. 

Next, Major General Schlösser presented the SACEUR Recognition Award to Sergeant Jean-Francois Lapierre, CAN A. Sergeant Lapierre shown his ability to quickly understand and adopt business processes related to individual training management and delivery, being highly committed to the NATO training community and developing innovated processes for improving the operational capability of NCISG HQ and NSB personnel.

Then, seven NCISG HQ staff members were recognized with the NCISG Individual Recognition Award, as follows:

  • OF-3 Greg Sarson – J3 Division
  • Mr. Ibrahim Acar – J4 Divisions
  • Mr. Mark De Baat Doelman – J2/6 Division
  • Ms. Korozana Celaj Moore – J7 Division
  • Mr. Vasile Platica – J2/6 Division
  • Mr. Salvador Serrano-Diaz – J5 Division

During the ceremony, Major General Schlösser expressed his gratitude and satisfaction for the services rendered by all NCISG staff members, which as always required a lot of preparation and availability. The Commander was impressed by the positive feedback he received from external stakeholders. He underlined that the NATO CIS Group is very busy with exercises and many staff members spent a lot of time away from home, which is often not recognized.
