EXERCISE STEADFAST COBALT 2020 AWARDS CEREMONY

MONS, Belgium – Exercise STEADFAST COBALT is NATO’s largest Communications and Information Systems (CIS) exercise and is conducted by the NCISG.

The Exercise STEADFAST COBALT 2020 Awards Ceremony took place on 8 October 2020 which, as a result of COVID-19 and travel restrictions, was held virtually for the first time.

As the Exercise drew to a close, the NATO CIS Group (NCISG) Commander, Major General Wolfgang Renner, praised the Exercise participants for their dedication and determination to accomplish all that they had set out to do, made all the more difficult by the current pandemic.

Although he had not been able to visit each and every location, Major General Renner said the recognition of individual achievements had still been possible.

Via a video link he was able to recognise twenty-nine standout individuals who had borne the weight of the exercise on their shoulders and whose contributions needed to be acknowledged. The awardees were each presented with a specially framed set of coins consisting of the Commander’s coin, the Command Senior Enlisted Leader’s coin and the STEADFAST COBALT coin.

In closing the virtual ceremony, Major General Renner recognised that the success of the Exercise had been a team effort and thanked all the Exercise participants for their significant contributions. His final command was:

Carry on the excellent work and keep smiling!
