Lieutenant Colonel Robert H. Topper Jr. is a native of Hanover, Pennsylvania and began his military career in 2001 as an enlisted soldier, MOS 88M Motor Transport Officer. His first assignment was with 7th Transportation Group, deploying in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. From the enlisted ranks he completed Officer Candidate School, earning his Commission in 2004 to the Signal Corps.
LTC Topper's early assignments were in 41st Signal Battalion, 1st Signal Brigade, Youngman South Korea as a Platoon Leader and Executive Officer; At Fort Bragg, North Carolina he served in the 51st Signal Battalion 35th Signal Brigade as a Platoon Leader; 586th Network Support Company, 525 Battlefield Surveillance Brigade as an Executive Officer; 319th Military Intelligence Battalion, 525 Battlefield Surveillance Brigade as the Battalion S6 and later assumed command of the 586th Network Support Company in Talifar, Iraq; XVIII Airborne Corps as the Executive Information Officer for the Commander and later the United State Forces Commander in Iraq.
After completion of the Signal Captains Career Course he was assigned to the 311th Theater Signal Command where he served as the Aide-de-Camp for the Commanding General and G3 Current Operations Officer. 30th Signal Battalion, 516th Signal Brigade as the S3 and Executive Officer.
LTC Topper participated in Training with Industry at Verizon in Ashburn, Virginia and then Served in the 75th Ranger Regiment as the Regimental S6. LTC Topper has deployed numerous times with both Special Operations Forces and Conventional units, including Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Freedom Sentinel.
LTC Topper and his wife Angela have been married for 20 years and they have three Children, Mason (16), Layla (10), and Seth (5).
