Battalion Command Senior Enlisted Leader

Command Sergeant Major Gary D. Oliver Sr.

Command Sergeant Major Oliver became the 2nd NATO Signal Battalion Command Senior Enlisted Leader (CSEL) on September 24, 2021. As the CSEL, he advises and makes recommendations to the Battalion Commander on NCO related matters, represent or accompany the commander (Command Group) to official functions, inspections, and conferences as well as enforce policy compliance, adherence to standards of performance, effective training, discipline, and talent management.

Oliver is a native of Shreveport, Louisiana, and enlisted in the Army in June 1995. He attended Basic Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Gordon, GA as a 74C Record Telecommunications Center Operator/Maintainer. In 2007, Oliver deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as the NCOIC of the Counter-IED Operations Integration Center. From 2011 to 2012 he deployed as a First Sergeant for the 1/25th Stryker Brigade Combat Team and NCOIC for a Security Forces Assistance Team in Afghanistan. On his final deployment, he served as the National Support Element First Sergeant for the four-star headquarters in Kabul in Support of Operation Enduring Freedom from 2013 to 2014.

Oliver was assigned as the First Army G6 SGM and United States Army Europe G6 Headquarters Support Division SGM as well as First Sergeant while serving with the 59th Signal Battalion, 1/25th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, Headquarters III Corps and Allied Forces North Battalion.

Oliver's military education includes all levels of Professional Military Education. He is an Air Assault graduate. Oliver holds a Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Management from Ashford University.

His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (5th award), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal (5th award), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal (6th award), Overseas Service (7th award), NATO Medal, Joint Chiefs of Staff Identification Badge and Air Assault Badge. He is also a member of the prestigious Audie Murphy and Sergeant Morales Clubs.

Oliver is married to his wife Shelia, has six children and two grandchildren.
